Alice and Webster Miller’s son-in-law Elmer Ralphs, lived here in 1930 . Ralphs was a great grandson of Walter Ralphs, Founder of the Ralphs Grocery chain in 1873. Ralphs was living with his in-laws while another home was being built for him at 2401 Nottingham Avenue. Located at 4941 Finley Avenue in Los Feliz Village.

Architect Theodore Starrett designed the Spanish Mediterranean style apartment building with Moorish influences for owner Jack Kinder (some sources spell the name "Kiuder") in 1929. It was the first major building in the area, originally operating as an apartment-hotel. The construction was somewhat of an engineering feat; the 18 suites are terraced in five stories on a street-to-street lot with the rear units and parking garage cascading down the hill to Palmerston Place.
